Video posted to social media on Sunday (May 29) captures the experience of base jumpers in Norway’s remote fjords.
The video of Norway’s Lysefjord shows a mountainous landscape of steep cliffs, water falls, and snowy peaks, seen from the perspective of an aerial drone. Nine base jumpers leap off the cliffs, some performing acrobatics off the heights.
A camera mounted to one of the jumpers shows the fall from his perspective. The video was the creation of Espen Hatleskog, who recorded it while hiking in the region on May 25 and 26. Hatleskog, a 29-year old conservation worker who lives near the edge of the fjord, told Reuters the base jumpers were leaping from heights of up to 1,000 metres (3,280 feet) above the water.
One of those jumpers, Fredrik Wolles, offered Hatleskog the footage from his helmet-mounted camera to help with the production.
