Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Kawalan Penyakit, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong berkata lelaki itu mengalami sakit kira-kira seminggu dan dimasukkan ke sebuah hospital swasta di pulau peranginan itu.
BANGKOK: Thailand pada Khamis telah mengesahkan kes pertama cacar monyet melibatkan seorang warga Nigeria berusia 27 tahun yang melakukan perjalanan dari Nigeria ke Phuket.
Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Kawalan Penyakit, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong berkata lelaki itu mengalami sakit kira-kira seminggu dan dimasukkan ke sebuah hospital swasta di pulau peranginan itu.
“Pesakit itu mengalami simptom seperti demam, batuk, sakit tekak, hidung berair dan ruam, kemudian ujian saringan PCR didapati positif cacar monyet pada Selasa,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan.
Jawatankuasa Kawalan Penyakit Kebangsaan mengesahkan ia adalah kes pertama cacar monyet di Thailand.
Dr Opas berkata pihak berkuasa kesihatan telah diarahkan untuk meningkatkan pengawasan bagi mengekang penularan penyakit itu.
Cacar Monyet, penyakit virus yang jarang berlaku dan kebiasaannya dilaporkan di kawasan hutan hujan tropika di tengah dan barat Afrika.
Lonjakan jangkitan penyakit itu telah dilaporkan sejak awal Mei di kawasan lain.
Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO) pada Khamis telah mewujudkan semula Jawatankuasa Kecemasan Penyakit Cacar Monyet untuk menilai implikasi kesihatan awam akibat wabak itu, memandangkan kes di peringkat global sudah melepasi 14,000 dengan enam negara melaporkan kes pertama pada minggu lepas.–AlHIjrah Online
