KAHERAH: Liga Arab mengadakan mesyuarat tergempar di sini pada Khamis untuk membincangkan larangan Israel terhadap aktiviti Agensi Bantuan dan Kerja Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu untuk Pelarian Palestin di Asia Barat (UNRWA) di wilayah Palestin yang diduduki.
Dipengerusikan Yaman, mesyuarat ini diadakan di peringkat perwakilan tetap atas permintaan Jordan dan disokong oleh beberapa negara Arab lain, lapor Agensi Anadolu (AA) memetik laporan agensi berita rasmi Mesir, MENA.
Agenda mesyuarat memberi tumpuan kepada merangka respons bersama Arab terhadap “rang undang-undang berbahaya dan tidak sah” diluluskan oleh Knesset (parlimen Israel), yang melarang operasi UNRWA di wilayah yang diduduki, termasuk Baitulmuqaddis Timur.
Pada Selasa, Jordan secara rasmi meminta blok pan-Arab mengadakan mesyuarat tergempar untuk membincangkan tindak balas kolektif terhadap rang undang-undang Knesset itu.
Pada Isnin, Knesset meluluskan rang undang-undang yang melarang operasi UNRWA, yang akhirnya akan menjejaskan tugas agensi itu di Gaza, Tebing Barat yang diduduki, dan Baitulmuqaddis Timur. Undang-undang itu akan berkuat kuasa dalam tempoh 90 hari.
Ketua Pesuruhjaya UNRWA Philippe Lazzarini, menyifatkan larangan Israel itu sebagai “tidak pernah berlaku sebelum ini dan berbahaya,” serta melanggar Piagam Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu.
Israel menuduh kakitangan UNRWA bersubahat dalam serangan Hamas pada 7 Okt 2023, dengan mendakwa bahawa program pendidikan agensi itu “mempromosi keganasan dan kebencian.” —AlHijrah Online
