WASHINGTON: Menghantar bantuan kemanusiaan menggunakan payung terjun ke Semenanjung Gaza menjadi “jalan terakhir” tetapi langkah ini “sangat mencabar”, menurut Pejabat Pertubuhan Bangsa Bersatu (PBB) untuk Hal Ehwal Kemanusiaan (UN OCHA).
Ketua OCHA di Palestin yang diduduki Andrea De Domenico berkata selain sangat mencabar ia juga memerlukan kos yang agak tinggi dan tidak mampan namun itu pilihan terakhir yang ada sekarang.
Justeru itu, De Domenico amat berharap pihak-pihak yang berkaitan bersetuju untuk menyediakan akses tanpa halangan dan berterusan.
Kenyataan itu dibuat selepas Perdana Menteri Palestin Mohammad Shtayyeh meminta Kesatuan Eropah (EU) dan PBB untuk menggunakan payung terjun bagi menghantar bantuan ke Semenanjung Gaza.
“Saya fikir apa yang benar-benar diperlukan sekarang ialah membuka lintasan bagi memastikan bekalan bantuan dapat dihantar secara berterusan.
“Saya tahu Jordan sudah pun menghantar bantuan dengan menggunakan cara itu (payung terjun). Tetapi sudah tentu kuantitinya sangat terhad,” kata De Domenico pada Isnin.
Mengulas mengenai keadaan di sekitar hospital Al-Shifa di Gaza, beliau menyeru semua pihak untuk menjalankan tanggungjawab mereka kerana hospital tidak boleh dijadikan sasaran peperangan.
Sementara itu, beliau menganggarkan sehingga Ahad, seramai 230,000 penduduk awam mungkin telah berpindah ke selatan Gaza.–AlHijrah Online
